Reaper of Souls launches tomorrow with D2R Items new loot drop systems, a new Crusader character, a brand-new level 70 cap along with an Adventure Mode, and the removal of that controversial Auction House. Many of its mechanical changes have been incorporated back into the vanilla game as part of patch 2.0.1.
However, the main gist is that players will get more varied loot more frequently. The response, generally, is positive. "It's good to witness people reacting positively to the new changes" Mayberry says, "and I think that the changes are great."
"We believe we're in great position with this because we're eager to play it constantly," he added. "There's an abundance of enthusiasm that we're waiting to hear what the players are going to have to say. "Leading the charge on Reaper of Souls is Josh Mosqueira who took over as game director in June 2013. Mayberry spoke about the impact certain of his choices have had on the game. "Josh arrived and really made a push for Adventure Mode and the dynamic difficulty system.
Opening the game. Jay [Wilson, former game director] was extremely focused on creating that Diablo experience down. Josh's main concern was how can we build on the experience? We had to make pretty major changes to do the things Josh wanted to do, and it was one of those situations where when we've done this there's no going back. So there was some nervousness at the beginning when we started to develop the idea, but it all came together really well."
What about Wilson Who was bombarded with thousands upon thousands of angry comments following the release of Diablo. "Josh worked very closely alongside Jay," says Mayberry. "I've been with Jay since, well, I've helped bring Jay to Blizzard and I've been with him for over 20 years. I think the fans like to make up a rivalry between these two. There's absolutely nothing."
Nobody at Blizzard will be using words such as mistake, error or regret in the context of Diablo however the message is obvious to me that the team has been quick to buy diablo II resurrected items proclaim the positive aspects of the new game and hasn't been seen as mourning the things that have gone.
