Starting point
Galu Devi Temple in Dharamkot is the starting point of this journey. You can hire a taxi from Dharamshala or Mcleodganj to reach this place. There is a checkpoint here manned by a forest ranger where hikers must check in by 2pm before the start of the hike.
Delhi to Dharamshala by bus
From Delhi it is best to take the night bus to Mcleodganj. A bus bound for Dharamshala will take you to the main square of McLeodganj. There are two bus options from Delhi. There are buses either from Majnu ka Tila (officially called New Aruna Nagar Colony) in North Delhi or from Kashmir Gate ISBT to Dharamshala. There is a direct private bus to Dharamshala which leaves late at night from 18:00. It takes about 10 to 11 hours to reach Mcleodganj. Delhi to Dharamshala by plane
There is an average of three flights from Delhi to Kangra Airport. Flights usually arrive in the morning to late afternoon. There are no night flights to Dharamshala. There is a taxi association right in front of Kangra Airport and you can hire a taxi directly to Dharamshala or McLeodganj. You can book a hotel in Dharamshala if you are really late and want a night's rest.
Reach triund
It is a 7 km trek from Dharamkot Mcleodganj and usually takes around 4 hours to reach the summit. The climb is moderate for most of the climb, except for the steep climb of the last kilometer with a switch.
Things to wear
The starting point of the trip is Galu Devi Dharamkot Temple where you can fill your water bottle. Before starting the hike, bring at least 2 liters of water. You can fill the water near the natural river before 1 km from the Triund hike. Water is scarce at the top of the ridge and you can hike back up to the river to recharge. Do not throw away plastic bottles as they can cause plastic water to accumulate in the natural landscape. Bring a light backpack, wear quality walking shoes, and comfortable clothing. Permission and security
The starting point of the journey is Galu Devi Temple where your backpack and identity will be checked by forest officials before starting the journey. Make sure to pass this point before 2 pm, after which you are not allowed to start the journey from this forest control post.
Where to stay in Triund
You can rent a tent on the summit or stay at a jungle lodge, which you pre-book directly on the HP Tourism website. You can also bring and set up your own tent. It is recommended to follow a pre-planned itinerary with the tour operator for your comfortable stay in Triund.
