In the days before the cover reveal, the Undefeated's Aaron Dodson caught up with Jackson to talk about Jackson's Tecmo Bowl days, how Bo Knows came to life during his Madden return and more. This conversation has been edited for clarity and length. What is it like for you to be a player on the cover for the sport 35 years after your career first began?
The idea has been in the making off and on for years. The time had to be just right for my brand. The teaming up with the Madden people to get things sorted out, complete all the i's dot all the t'swhen we had that done, the rest was simply going for it. I knew that, somewhere in my past I'd done something right in order to still be remembered as one of the legendary sportsmen from more than 30 years ago. Madden isn't convinced enough of me to do something like this.
Your video game legacy dates back to 1989 when you were the mainstay of Tecmo Bowl. How was it to experience yourself virtually back then? I'm still seeing myself as a player in the Tecmo Bowl. I've still got my video games. I still have the device in which to run it. But it's in a storage box that's in storage. It's iconic. It really makes me feel happy to have grown men in their 40s saying."
Hey, my friend and I were involved in the biggest conflict of our lives, because we both wanted to be in the Tecmo Bowl when we were young. We took our parents' game and my dad locked it away in his tool cabinet. We were unable to play it for a whole month since the fight was too intense buy madden coins."I hear this a lot.
