A number of the series' problems in the field have been sorted out very well with regard to run defense, that was deemed too challenging to stop in the previous season however it has been seen a tenfold improvement here. Also, tackling in open fields has better animation and less cartoonish tackles, which had the opponents leaping through the sky like super heroes. Simple moves are now performed using the correct stick, which means that evading adversaries is much easier than it did before. It also helps to run much more smoothly.
The game is among the worst entries in the Madden series in recent years, and that is quite a statement, considering that the game featured headless players running around, and huge glitches that saw huge lines be seen running across the screen, as if players were playing on an old plasma television. The most frustrating aspect of this endless sequence of glitches, is the fact that it causes issues in the game's gameplay. When a framerate drops at a certain time the players may miss a catch, or even a kick.
The greatest improvement between NFL 21 & NFL 20 is, without a certainty, the increase in graphics. When the camera is zoomed to the left, it's as if players are watching a real game.
