Original Mikey General – yes original so there is no doubt who this artist is. Many have come forward with the same name yet there is only one Authentic Michael Taylor aka Mikey General a fine and true soldier of JAH's army.
Mikey General is one of the few Reggae Artists that comes with the seal of “satisfaction guaranteed”...
A dedicated and respected, humble and sincere Rastaman; Mikey is nothing but genuine. No matter where I go, from state to state, country to country, the very mention of Mikey General's name garner nothing less than grand adulation. He is the most approachable and sincere Rasta Reggae Artist out there. To know him is to know JAH and to gain knowledge – his infinite wisdom and love for the most high is apparent in all his goings and comings.
What I respect about Mikey is; in all his years in the business, he did not sell out, he remains steadfast in the Roots of things and holding strong to JAH JAH. I have seen over the years many become corrupted by various persons and the system, yet Mikey stands firm, steady as a Rock. JAH influence in song and man is evident.
I have no hesitations, when it comes to beating to the Rhythms of Mikey Generals' drums and always giving thanks to JAH for such a bright guiding light.
With that said, lets explore Mikey General's recent creation titled “Hailelujah Song”, I did not review the works right off because I wanted others to be able to review ahead of me. I have a close relationship with Mikey in Rastafari and always want to make sure that what I write about him is in all honesty. :)
For many of you there needs to be no introductions as Mikey General has been around for a long time, pounding the Reggae beats from Jamaica to Europe and back. He is the most giving of time Rasta in the business, doing lots of charity works and events. With all the goodness he does he receives the least of recognition; a recognition that he truly deserves.
He has proven time upon time his musical prowess, bouncing tune to tune with such finesse it's amazing. Reminds me of the song that Ed Robinson sung, “knock on heavens door” which conveys a powerful message of strength. This could very well explain Mikey General. A man with the patience of Job he patiently knocks on the doors of Reggae, more times than none, he knocks them down musically on all grounds, he expertly sings the praises to JAHs majestic works in Hailelujah Song. This song in itself praises Jah in such a way it makes my heart tingle, the love poured out in this song is just soul inspiring. When Mikey sings this song he delivers it with such affection for the most high, it makes the heart bleed with hope and joy, nothing less than the love that is known to be complete AGAPE love.
Just these words alone taken from the lyrics of Hailelujah Song make you weep with joy – as Mikey sings: When I recall all that JAH has done for me. I get so confused, because it's so many and in time of need he never ever lets us down. He is one who never fails. His blessings is more than the hair that is on my head, more than I can count, it's best that I praise him instead”. Mikey General is deep, I mean deep.
Moving on to his conscientiously infectious song titled “Let's Pass love on” this song should be a daily Anthem! With all the war, kidnapping and such going on, if people can just stop, think and listen and “Just pass love on”, it would solve most of the heartache and pain in the world. :). Mikey says “ It begins with me and it begins with you; all it takes is a change of attitude, lets pass love on”.
Yes, I love each and every song and jah messages on this CD, I especially love the heart rendering love songs, that speaks truth in a clean and moral way. The song “Inna Million Years” is the perfect love song, when you listen to this song Mikey takes you back to the days of the real reggae lovers sound. The beat to his voice of sweetness is just funtastic! it will make you fall in love with rock-steady all over again.
And if you just need a pick me up, then I suggest his song “Rastafari never lies” as it will do just that, this upbeat song with a message of encouragement, will have you rocking and praising JAH in one breathe. Perfect song, from a perfect Artist abound.
Mikey General has a wonderfully beautiful voice, some refers to it as nasal, some refers to it a soulful, then you have others that refers to it as sexy and sweet that in itself shows his wideness in vocal range. This pure and unique range establishes who he is in every breathe, of every song – The Original Mikey General.
If you don't have Hailelujah Song as a staple in your reggae collection, may I suggest you get on it. :)

For those who know him, knows he is not just blowing smoke, this is really how he feels. You can only take a look at his postings on Facebook to see his Love of JAH. Yes, there is no one posting for Mikey on this page (as some artist does), this is Mikey in the real deal. (smile). That's why you know, that the Mikey we have come to know and love is the REAL DEAL!!!!!
