| Pakistani politician Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and IT specialist Tariq Chaudhry founded Airblue Limited, a private airline, in 2003. Although the business was only started in 2004, its inexpensive prices and security made it quite popular in its first year of operation. It was able to directly compete with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the country's flag carrier, as a result. Initially, Airblue operated internal flights from Karachi, Pakistan to Lahore, Islamabad, and back. However, it soon expanded, adding flights to Peshawar and Multan, bringing its total number of domestic cities to five. They were also encouraged to add foreign flights to and from Pakistan by their rapid rise to popularity. They began operating their first international route in 2005. from Karachi to Dubai and from then have been adding flights to Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, KSA airports of Jeddah, and Riyadh as well. The airline currently has a fleet of 10 aircraft Airbus A320 and A321. |
