The double world and Olympic champion ended his history-making season by
winning his 200 metres in 19.68 sec, a time bettered by only four other
athletes and more than half a second ahead of second-placed Wallace
Spearmon, of the United States. "I'm just happy that the season is over
and that I did well," he said. "I got through it injury-free and
I'm just looking forward to going home."
The Jamaican, who warmed up the 25,000 crowd by playing air guitar, or rather
air balalaika, to Zorba the Greek, said he would be taking a minimum of six
weeks off and would not miss running one bit. "I just want to sleep,"
he said.
