SM Philharmonic to offer 'La Traviata' on Saturday
The famed opera "La Traviata" is looking to be the highlight of the Santa Maria Philharmonic?s season on Saturday, Feb. 21.
popular musical sensation, written by Giuseppe Verdi, is based on a
novel by Alexander Dumas, and was premiered in 1856 in New York. Since
then, it has become the third most performed opera in North America,
according to Marilyn Cronk with the Santa Maria Philharmonic Society.
story of the opera centers on "tragic and lovely Violetta," according
to a recent press release from the Philharmonic Society, a famed
courtesan who is attracted to a young nobleman, Alfredo Germont, who
has long adored Violetta from afar. There is something about Alfredo
that touches Violetta?s heart when they meet, and the romance begins.
