I tanked everything in beta using a premade WoTLK Gold pally that was much more gear than this and none of the professions. So this set definitely not required, but good to have if have emblems and gold to spare. As a reference the palette I played with beta had 31 QHP raid buffed as well as some other options added to the item wishlist so you can mouse over the slot to see alternatives if you don't want to pay for either the emblems and gold, or you are lucky enough to get drops.
