The developers who developed Diablo 4 have stressed that they do not want players to "feel that they are able to pay to win" when the game launches next year.
In an earlier Diablo 4 livestream(opens in new tab) Game director Joe Shely, along with the associate director of games Joesph Piepiora and the community's manager Adam Fletcher gave fans an update on all things Diablo 4, as well as gave an insight into the game's development prior to the game's release in the summer of next year.
During the stream they discussed details of Diablo 4 battle pass (around the 39:15 mark in the video below) and also the game's upcoming seasons. "It's extremely important to us that we balance the things that you'd find in the battle pass" Piepiora stated, "the way that they're challenging but are also very equitable, we don't want to create any conditions where players feel they can pay to win. "To be able to clearly differentiate from the Battle Pass and the seasons of Diablo 4 Piepiora stated that "the season journey is still in Diablo 4, in the same manner as you did the first time in Diablo 3." The chapter-based mechanic offers players different goals throughout the season and will allow them to earn in-game rewards that will be rewarded to the character they choose. "All of the seasonal content is absolutely free. It's not linked to the battle pass itself," Shely adds.
In an effort to clarify any confusion, Shely clarified that in the event that Diablo 4 launches on June 6, 2023, it will not launch immediately with season one. "Season one will start a few several weeks after the release of the game, and when season one kicks off all players will start at the same time buy Diablo 4 Gold, everyone will be on the same playing field," the developer said. The competitive features of Diablo 4 (e.g. : leader boards) are apparently going to show up in seasons which means that players who don't purchase early access to the game won't have to worry about any unfairness.
