D2R Items Players have the option of playing characters on The Classic Ladder (which encompasses the original game's four acts), Hardcore Classic Ladder (the same as Classic however with the added wrinkle of character's just having one chance to live) as well as the Classic and Hardcore Ladders , which encompass all of the games Lord of Destruction expansion content.

Individual characters made for a certain Ladder are only able to play with other characters that are on the same Ladder. At the end of the season, Ladder characters will be transformed into characters that are not Ladder-exclusive, and will keep any items exclusive to Ladder placed in that character's inventory.

The items stored at the time of the Ladder storage area will need to wait until the start at the start of Ladder Season 3 to be retrieved, lest they be lost forever. The Ladder season is planned to last between four and six months.

Blizzard will celebrate the game's first D2R items for sale PS4 Ladder season by streaming a live event they're calling The Infernal Race. The various Diablo producers will collaborate as well as competing with one another in their quest to race to the top of the leaderboards in the season.
