Legend of Zelda Fan Rumors Were "Frustrating" for Donkey Kong developersWhen Eric Kozlowsky was hired by Retro Studios, it resulted in reports suggesting that Retro Studios was working on a new Zelda game.
The artist previously worked on PlayStation's Uncharted series and, due to reasons that are not clear, this led fans to make connections. However, Kozlowsky and Retro Studios were actually working on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and when the game was officially unveiled, many Zelda fans reacted with disdain because they were hoping for something else. In a new interview for the Kiwi Talkz podcast, Kozlowsky explained how the rumor led to frustration for the development team.
"Sometimes it's frustrating since it causes false expectations. And I think that happened when we first announced Tropical Freeze. People were looking at the news and thinking, 'they're making something like a Zelda game It's the next Zelda game', but like nope. We announced Tropical Freeze and it looks amazing and is gorgeous and then people are like "oh, but it's a different Donkey Kong.'
Then, you find out that everyone is slapping it on Neogaf or some other site and you're all like 'oh you know, because everybody was thinking we were playing an Zelda game and it's like no buy diablo 2 resurrected items, that's not what we do.' It's both humorous at times. this, but it's also uncomfortable when it continues for a bit too long," said Kozlowsky.
