The RuneScape site displays players on all versions
The RuneScape site displays players on all versions, the old school site displays only OSRS gold
players. To actually know how many players are playing OSRS You
subtract the second number from the first number, and the result is the
number of active RS3 players that is in this case around 37k players on
RS3. OSRS generally surpasses RS3 at a ratio of around 2 or 2.5:1
However, that ratio is thought to be lots of bots on the OSRS aspect but
RS3 is by no means invincible to botting.
It's not just me.
Jagex employees think that way. I once had an RS3 JMod in my clan who
was on OSRS and he claimed that it was his opinion that RS3 was dying
and that it was a common belief in the office. He also said that it's
considered to be a promotion to get into that Old School team and that
the majority of employees who work on RS3 are keen to join an Old School
team. However it was not possible for him to be on the OSRS team and
said they didn't pay a lot and it was no longer worth it to stay with
the RS3 team. He resigned from Jagex a while back.
The misplaced
items can be a problem site as it's biased in ways that prefer OSRS. The
way that misplaced items function is that it creates a snapshot of
active players at that moment. If you are playing during the day but
you're not present when the photo is taken, it doesn't display. RS3
which is a game that needs less time to make progress and is built
around more so on logging to make quick flashes of action is at an
obvious disadvantage to OSRS which is built on the long sustained grind.
A
MUCH better representation is the MMO population which shows far more
precise numbers. RS3 is about a little over half of the active users for
OSRS with regards to subscribers and around 1/3rd of active players.
However, there are other variables which influence this. However, you
should be able understand what I mean through the burst type of play,
OSRS has a steady flat line as RS3 has drops and spikes.
There
are other elements that are at play, such as OSRS leans better to
streaming and creating content, it's easier to view OSRS and comprehend
what's happening as well. OSRS as a platform has intentionally sought
out content creators and streamers base. Although they've received a lot
of criticism, get for that it's pretty obvious how valuable the result
is. The players get a lot of exposure and are able to draw viewers to
their base. When just a few OSRS content creators switched to playing
RS3 you saw an identical increase. Content, streamers, and creators are
better than anything Jagex can ever dream of matching.
It is
fascinating to note that when you combine both games into the same space
with a vacuum. Steam OSRS actually pulled horrible steam figures, but
far less than RS3's steam did even though neither game had the same
amount of duration of use RS3 comprise. This could be due to two
factors, RS3 has lots of negative publicity that it's currently working
on trying to shake from its mistakes in the past. It's possible to see
lots of inaccurate information about the game spread without intention
or intent here on Reddit but at a level that's less affected by that ,
it draws players due to it being an cheap OSRS gold
game. Another thing to consider is how miserable and difficult OSRS can
be without Runelit, even if you've gotten on steam from the moment
you've played the Runelit client just doesn't feel good.
