How to Tell a Racing Wheel From a Regular Wheel

Has it been your wish to emerge the best in a car racing competition but this wish has never been fulfilled? Maybe you do all the preparations right; buy new wheels, run a road test, and do any other preparation that is expected to be done before the race comes. However, you have never made it to the top. This leaves you humiliated and pulls down your morale. You are not a problem. Neither is your racing car the problem. The problem is one; your wheels!

For any racing competitor, it is important to know the differences between racing and ordinary wheels. This might sound unrealistic to most people but, yeah, there are several differences between racing wheels and ordinary wheels. Some similarities are also there but the differences outdo them and this makes them special in a way compared to ordinary ones.

Racing wheels are set to go for approximately 150 miles after which they need to be replaced with new ones. Most people make a mistake by using them over and over again. You probably have done this. This makes the wheel weaker over time and the weaker it gets the lesser the car speed gets. This will make you lag behind.

Regular wheels on the other hand can go for approximately 50,000 miles. They can be used over and over without wearing out.

This is one common mistake that you make unknowingly; having the idea that they function the same as regular wheels.

Racing Wheels are smooth and have a more firm grip on the road compared to regular ones although, they wear out quickly. However, regular ones are rough and have fewer firm grips. They have treads and grooves which are designed for different road types. They do not wear out quickly.

Racing wheels, due to their special designs, are more expensive compared to regular ones. They are also inflated using dry Nitrogen and use an air pressure that's different from regular wheels. Regular wheels use regular air.

Most racing wheels are made in a 'tire within a tire' design which enables them to go for extra distances if they get punctures along the way. This is one major advantage that they have over regular wheels. You will be lucky if you get a puncture just as you are meters away from the finishing line because the wheels will push you through.

Racing wheels are lighter in weight as compared to regular wheels. This characteristic helps them speed up the racing car.

A precaution to note is that racing wheels are not to be used on public roads because they are not made to match the standards required by regular wheels. An example of a company that sells these wheels is The American Racing Wheels Company.

All of the above differences make the racing wheel stand unique. By identifying and having the knowledge of these differences, you will be able to get the right wheels for your racing vehicle and take care of them in the right way. Good riddance to you as you look forward to winning the forthcoming race!
