Cummings-Inniss, who is from
Trinidad, said she and the other women in her group, Soca &
Associates, spent months and hundreds of dollars making their elaborate
costumes by hand for yesterday’s Caribbean American Carnival parade. As
she spoke in the rain, yellow droplets dripped from the feathers of her
costume.
“This beauty and
the women out here, it’s a waste,’’ she said. “I worked for months and
we need sunlight to dance in the streets.’’
