Are you getting ready to move house?
Packing up everything you own and moving it someplace else
can be an incredibly stressful experience. Just when you’ve finished assembling
boxes and finally managed to fit everything into the moving van, you suddenly
have to unpack it again.
There’s no denying it, moving houses is overwhelming.
However, if you follow our few tips and tricks, you’ll find that the whole
experience is a lot more enjoyable than you originally thought.
Our top home moving tips
The following advice may take a bit of extra planning and
organisation, but our team will be able to move all your household items much
more efficiently if you can find the time to implement these ideas into your
moving routine.
- Before you start packing,
make sure you have a range of clean boxes in many different sizes. They
should be in good condition with flaps on them so they can be sealed with
tape to ensure maximum security. Drink boxes are a good way to store cups
and cutlery as they have dividers. To easily collect them, ask local shops
or supermarkets if they have any left over. Otherwise, your removal
company will have them to purchase. Domestic Moving Services Gold Coast
- Buy some felt tip pens and
be sure to label every box. You can do this by room, person, and content
or with labels such as ‘fragile’ or ‘this side up’ for the more breakable
items. You can also colour-code your boxes with dots and, if possible,
visit your home before you move to place corresponding colours on doors so
the boxes can immediately be placed in certain rooms.
- Be sure to empty all
wardrobes and drawers of heavy items so that it is easier to carry.
However, certain light, unbreakable items can be left if necessary.
Furniture with doors must be emptied and you should never tape doors or
drawers shut. Please empty any appliance with a gas or fuel tank—such as a
lawn mower—before we move it.
- Prepare for your removal
day by ensuring that all your small items are placed near the truck’s
parking spot. Don’t block entrances to any doors as this wastes valuable
time.
- It is a good idea to have
young children taken care of during your removal day, as they naturally
need attention and tend to slow down the packing/removing process.
- For any pets, make sure
they are placed in a separate room when the movers arrive so they are not
in danger of being stood on or harmed as we begin removing items.
- Make sure to disassemble
any and all items that must be taken apart before being moved. This
includes things such as swing-sets, beds and large desks.
- Have all your electrical
appliances unplugged and safely secured, ready to be taken once our team
arrive at your house.
- To make the process
quicker, place all smaller items into one place, such as a carport or
garage. This saves you from running around the house finding them
throughout the moving day. Residential Removalists Gold
