SLAMMA JAMMA

“’Slamma Jamma’ is a story about how you can redeem yourself from the most horrific circumstances and come out on top,” said Tim Chey of RiverRain Productions, who both wrote and directed the film. “It’s about how perseverance will always lead to victory.”The basketball film features real-life basketball players Chris Staples, Porter Maberry, Rafal “Lipek” Lipinski, Guy Dupuy and Kenny Dobbs, who all participate in slam-dunk competitions. It also stars sports celebrities Michael Irvin and Jose Canseco. Irvin plays a sports agent who has a combative relationship with Maberry’s character.

Michael, A former college basketball star tries starting a new life after being released from prison in 'Slamma Jamma. Film opened with great audience reviews & everyone loves this movie. Michael, the guy who took the Chicago Bulls to six world championships and still has his own line of bestselling shoes. We're talking about Michael Diggs, who could've been as good as any of 'em.Film shows how anyone can overcome adversity and win.

The film opens with Michael at the height of his college career. Yet instead of forging a high-paying gig in the majors, he unfortunately makes a bad decision. He got caught up with gang members that so commonly roam the streets of Los Angeles. Michael, to his surprise, is convicted of a crime he didn’t commit. This forces him to leave his budding career, single mother, brother and girlfriend behind.Slamma Jamma is well-meaning at its heart, there’s comedy, some singing and even a cameo with Jose Canseco … if you needed that semi-celeb name you can recognize. But Slamma Jamma is heavy on the melodrama in the script. Cue up the violins, over acting and shout outs (think awards show acceptance speeches to God). Chris Staples in his role of Michael Diggs, delivers a pretty good performance (and he’s not bad to look at either!) for his first acting gig.  He stated, “I had turned down the role a couple of times due to other commitments, but felt that when they asked a third time and my schedule had miraculously cleared up, I just knew that this was a role I was meant to play.”The best part about “Slamma Jamma” is the dribble and dunking scenes throughout the film. I’m not much of a basketball fan, but the dunking scenes and comedic banter among the other players will appeal to all.

The film was a little corny and syrupy from time to time but it was an overall very good, positive film.It was almost like the critic was out to get the actors and producers for no reason. The critic seemed to relish being cruel and his attacks were not only unwarranted, but also untrue. We should all be so fortunate to have the opportunity to see a movie that features a person that actually tries to deal with these issues without making judgment calls and instead offer resolutions to problems. This was good because they were able to see the consequences of their actions. When they made the right decision, they were able to see the positive consequences. When they made the wrong decision the players were faced with negative consequences and had no one to blame but themselves. The positive message the movie conveyed was that lives can be changed for the better through self-discipline, hard work and the building of character.
