On my last flight a few days ago I noticed that the guy next
to me was vaping. I did not mind at all because the fragrance was quite
appealing. It was almost a sweet and minty flavor that was great. Upon further
research the following details came up, there are no FAA guidelines that ban
the use of e cigarettes on flights and this makes it much more open policy. The
decision to ban or not, is dependent on the airline, but as far as I have seen
the decision is entirely common. In fact I have even heard that some pilots
vape during flight as a means to be calm and to put a cap on their need to
smoke.
The reason why the FAA is not sure about how to treat smokeless
cigarettes on flights is based that the current smoking law which was
crafted over a decade ago to fight the free mindedness spirit of being able to
smoke whilst flying, this was seen a hazard as well as a means of irritating other
flyers who did not smoke and cause second hand smoke. I guess with the presence
of 9/11 night it became a security issue.
Apart from that from what I have seen the golden rule is
that vaping is allowed as long as those that are in the surrounding area are OK
with it, and most importantly there are no minors nearby. This has meant that
vaping whilst flying is now a global thing. This is very common with European
flights which even openly sell some of the best
e cigarettes brands during flights. And even though there seems to be a
lack of proof that states the effects of e cigarettes as being dangerous and
deadly, I guess all this claim is being processed on the basis of user’s
claims. Another thing that needs to be kept in mind is the upcoming FDA
regulations.
