- Many people dream of someday taking a Caribbean cruise, but for baby
boomer Bill Shafer and his wife, Sue, the dream of cruising has been a
reality for the last two years. Instead of sailing aboard a cruise
ship, the Fountain City residents have experienced the Caribbean while
living aboard their 38-foot sailing yacht, appropriately named
Unchained.
Though the Shafers first set sail for the Caribbean at the beginning
of 2008, their sailing adventures began in 1997 right after they were
married. "For our honeymoon, we went to the British Virgin Islands and
stayed at a resort that caters to sailors. We both fell in love with
the idea of cruising. We took a sailing class there and decided that
was something we wanted to do," Bill explains.
