The Jamaican press were happy about the national team win on Friday in
Miami, yet they will still have to be watching the games on Saturday in
order to give closure to their fate in the Gold Cup.
“Win Gives Ja Chance Of Gold Cup Advance”
That
was the headline in the sports sections of the Jamaica Observer. The
70th minute poach by Omar Cummings turned the tables around for the
Reggae Boyz who played with more will than skill on Friday night at
Florida International University Stadium.

Canada looked Costa Rica -- one of the best teams in the hemisphere
-- in the eye Friday night and barely shrugged, playing the No. 30 team
in the world to a 2-2 draw in the teams' final CONCACAF Gold Cup group
match. An announced crowd of 17,269 filled a raucous FIU Stadium.
In the night's second match, Jamaica surprised El Salvador 1-0, thanks to a goal by Omar Cummings in the 70th minute. Canada
finished Group A play with a 2-0-1 mark, earning the group's top seed
in the tournament's quarterfinals. The Canadians will face the
runners-up from Group B in Philadelphia next Saturday.
