But it was also light – designed to be worn while marching – and as she got used to wearing it, Rochelle, 17, said it wouldn't be a problem at the weekend.
"It's light," she said, then pointed to the shoulder area.
"It's a bit uncomfortable here, but we're going to sort it out." she added.
This Sunday, she'll don the giant, hanging headgear again as the queen of the Hyson Green Youth Centre's contribution to the Nottingham Caribbean Carnival parade.
The centre will be among about a dozen youth and community groups that will make up the most colourful part of the long, lively parade – the part that involves themed, costumed dancers led by the tall, feathered and spangled crown of their queen.
