Jamaica urged to recognise Court of Human Rights KINGSTON, Jamaica: The Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) is bemoaning the fact that Jamaica has not yet recognised the Commission on Human Rights.
The Jamaica Gleaner reported that Dr Santiago Canton, executive secretary of the IACHR, said it is extremely important for either this or a future administration in Jamaica to accept the jurisdiction of the IACHR for many reasons.
One of them, he outlined, was that it has an outstanding judge in Margarette Macaulay.
Members of the IACHR visited Jamaica at invitation of the Bruce Golding administration. Canton said, "We cannot visit a country without an invitation."
