Prez to reach summit in the Caribbean

Final preperations are underway for President Obama's highly anticipated visit to the Caribbean next month to take part in the Summit of the Americas.

Obama announced last month that he would attend the international gathering in Trinidad and Tobago's capital of Port-of-Spain April 17-19. The heads of government from Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean are also expected to assemble for the summit.

"Trinidad and Tobago has set a broad agenda for this summit which, as you know, is broadly focused on human prosperity, energy security and environmental sustainability," said Thomas Shannon, assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere affairs during a session of the Inter-American Dialogue organization earlier this month.
