From the sidelines the outfield at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua looks grassy, but beneath the foliage it is sandy and soft enough for the physiotherapists of both sides to be unhappy. Neither would comment publicly and while both captains and the match referee, Alan Hurst, who said it was "not ideal but not unfit", later played it down, there was a lot of head shaking and muttering from the men charged with keeping the players free on injury.
